Time to let it go.
This car came loaded with just about every option.
PS/PB/AC/TS/EW/CC, moon roof, and the dreaded digital-dash, burnt out of course.
It currently has the pushrodEA81 in it that runs great and uses practically no oil, maybe a 1/5 of a quart between changes.
It also has the 4spd D/R in it that is about to die. That's why I don't drive it. I paid $200 for a 5spd D/R from an '86 sedan but haven't taken the time to put it in.
A good friend gave me the Hydraulic EA81, it came out of a hatch. Supposedly runs *really* well.
Between the trany and the digi-dash, plus not having a place to keep it, it's time to passes it on.
It runs and drives, but I'm afraid the trany is going to seize.
Come get the whole lot including various and sundry parts from the hatch for $500.

how is it rust wize?

Not bad, but not rust free. One front fender has some preforation at the bottom. Also a little on the driver's side rear 1/4panel.
It's a SouthCarolina car and the underbody/sub-frame is very good.
The body has some small dings and scraps, after all, it *is* a 4wheeler! The driver door has a good size dent where anonymous backed into it, but it opens and closes fine.
It has the classic crease at the top of the front fenders from going thru deep ditches.
I'm the 3rd owner, well, 2nd, because he sold it to his daughter so I know it's never been wrecked.
Oh, yeah, the windshield is cracked.
It could be put back on the road after the trany swap, but I doubt it'll ever be purty again.

P.S.- I'll take some pix tonight.

Ever since I heard of USMB and looked up other Greenville members I've kept an eye our for FERTHER. If it's mostly an offroader, that would explain why I've never noticed you around town. I don't think my wife would be pleased if I got it....but I might mention it anyway.

Dude!
Good to hear of a fellow Subarite in GVegas!
It hasn't been on the road for about a year and a half.
FERTHER *is* mainly an on-road car, but has seen it's share of off-road duty. I used to work surveying and would drive it to the job site, and often into/onto the job site, but it's seen many hi-way miles also. At least 3 trips to FL, once to OH, then NJ, then the OuterBanks.
I usually cruised at 65/75 mph and saw the digi-dash show 104 once.
(sigh)
I'm gonna miss that car.

Looks like a chevy silverado to me. Doesn't say "Z71" so I assume that its not four wheel drive is the reason that its stuck.

Hey man... sorry for the long silence but I'm gonna have to pass on the DL. My wife flipped her lid and went ninja on my ass when I told her my intentions. So I ended up getting her a new car to smooth it over. My DL resto ideas will have to wait... a loooong time. Thanks for understanding.

dibs removed, from the *G*L
BTW, it was a chevy 2wd that was fully loaded with camping gear and family. The wife was the only one to get out and push. The dude in dreads was just biking by and stopped to help. His girl took the pic for me.
Yeah, it's one of my favorites.
While we're on the subject, FERTHER has pulled a ford p-up out of a ditch that had both front wheels hanging and was sitting on the frame, (that one made the clutch smell) and a loaded dodge p-up up a rotten-apple slick hill in an orchard where he'd slid nose-first into a tree and couldn't move. That guy actually laughed at me when I offered to help, but I had a big Sh*tEeatingGrin for a week after saving him a $150 towing bill. After that one people came up to me and asked where the cameras were because I must be filming a Subaru commercial!
Subaru has snatched the big 3!

Exactly how far gone is the tranny? Is it the whole thing, or just 3rd gear thats acting up? Heh.. would you trust it to make a trip to the Florida line?

I really should be saving my money, but I have another 5 acres to fill up with cars out here at my place, and need to entertain some daydreams. http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/images/smilies/toothless.gif

I don't think it could get out of town.
I suspect it's main bearings are going, but I don't know tranys.
It grinds and rumbles in any gear at any speed, whenever the wheels turn. I don't think it has 10 miles left in it, especially on a highway.
You can move it around under it's own power, but it sounds like it'll seize at any moment. Trailering it would be required.
BTW, I *love * your part of the country. Best oysters in the world!

eyep!
I let the regular street tires (185-80-13s) down to 20lbs and went out there with the big boys! Never got stuck, and only had to back out of something once.

Old Subarus love the OBX! I had an 86 gl wagon D/R 4wd that I drove on every stretch of beach that allowed vehilces from Ocracoke to the VA State line (and some areas that did not:). I once pulled a Samuri out.

Up in Corolla is the best though because there are trails that go back into the woods all the way the the Sound. I inadvertantly found myself on an ATV trail complete with banked turns. It was awesome!

Last Call for FERTHER!

It's gotta move before the end of August.
It'd beak my heart to let it go for scrap, although at 11cents a pound I could probably get 300 bux since it has the other engine & transmission in it. Not to mention the 4 new tires.

Somebody?

Anybody?

Please return this thread to Subaru Vehicles for sale.

If I had the time and space, sure, but I don't.
I hear the price of scrap metal is going up.
The 1st person that shows up with $300 bucks gets it.
All of it.
Extra trany.
Extra motor.
Extra carbs.
Box full of parts.
Shoot, it's got 4 practically new 185/70/13s that I paid $200 for right before I parked it.

dude, I just filled my tank for $3.39 a gallon, and it's lower than that on the other side of town!
Generally speaking, the cost of living is pretty low, and it's not as backward as you might think, being so close to the buckle of the bible belt and all. There aren't a lot of jobs, but if you can get transferred, c'mon down!

bheinen, time's a wasting. I was supposed to have it gone this weekend.

I'm really pushing it's luck, but the property owner is letting me slide some more.
Sold the transmission and tires, I put some bald ones on it to hold it up.
$200 for the car and spare hydraulic EA81 to any board member.

Nope, sold and gone.
The fella that came and got FERTHER was looking for a fender for his Brat and took the whole thing.
FERTHER may continue a little further as a Brat!
He *might* let some parts go, but I kinda doubt it.
If there's a particular part you're looking for I could see what he says.
