I've got a beautiful 98 Outback with 170K, body, interior and transmission in excellent condition. It needs a rebuild, or a new engine. Make an offer!

What happened to the engine? Was it head gasket failure?

And do you have a price in mind? It would be easier to put up a price than to play the back-and-forth guessing game.

I just picked one up for 200 today. I am going to part it as soon as I pull what I need.

Yup in PA I buy these all the time $300-$1000 with bad head gaskets or engines. I hear they go for more out west.

That's a good deal. The best I've ever got an outback for was $300, I've got 2 so far at that price. What was wrong with the one you got?

Oh good lord where do I start. listed is just what I know. I was able to drive 60 miles home.
1) Engine leaking coolant, seller included the gasket set and studs
2) Tires are all bald
3) Cracked windshield
4) Bad CV Joints
5) One bad caliper
6) Rust
7) O2 Sensor need replacement
8) The rear hatch has no spring left, need to use a peice of wood to hold up.

Is this car still for sale?

Sold - $1500

Just in case people were wondering, the problem was with the bearings - head gasket had already been replaced.

Me too. That would be a $7800 savings over the cost of my current Outback.

Yeah, out here they are still totally solid and unrusted still. Very Nice, running, 98 and 99s will get $6000-7000 or more.

Even *mechanics specials* around here that age are $1500 or more. Only time they are less is if they have body damage, salvage title, moldy interiors, etc..

Sometimes you do see deals. My friend just bought a very clean 2000 Outback for $3900. 200k miles, recently had new head put on by the dealer. The poor PO probably got hosed for the HG job and just sold it to run away from it quick.
