Air conditioning, T-tops, all stock, was in storage for a lot of years. Excellent interior, near perfect body. 2 spare sets of aggressive offroad tires (not mounted) No roll Bar, no topper.

Passed smog with ease and is currently registered in California. I've had it over a year and hardly driven it. My income level has changed and it looks like this is a little more car than i can afford. Sorry...no pics, but you already know what it looks like...a perfect Tan Brat. $10,000

I did a little searching and found a link to the PO thread about it.

Hopefully this will squelch any more comments about price :-\

Yes...those are the pics of the Brat posted from the seller when i bought it. There are a few more miles on it now because it was in San Diego and I drove it home to Sacramento. It has been stored since that trip, though I start it up every week and drive it a half mile to town about once a month.

Sorry if some of you are thinking the price is too high. The Brat is near perfect and I doubt there are many others around in this condition. Maybe Subaru has a secret vault filled with brand new classics...but I doubt it.

no matter what it is worth.you are dreaming.ebay is your only way.and at that you need verification of mileage.i don't think that people think the price is to high for the sake of the price being to high.there are a lot of folks that can make a car look beautiful with bondo.besides the mileage verification i would want a magnet run up and down it.verification, equals consumation with sale.cheers, brian

Won't be long now, and Brats will be bringing Hemi Mopar prices. I can't wait to see an immaculate 84 Gl with: T-tops, AC, and Jump Seats on Barret Jackson (with gold ribbon certification from the Fuji Heavy Registry of course) being hammered away in an exciting dual between an eccentric phone bidder, and a dealer nonchalantly considering how much he will make on the markup once it's parked in his showroom.

On second thought, I can wait to see that.

Return the Brat to the people who made it what it is; the poor white stoner dudes who just wanted to drive around in the mountains, and look at some wildlife...... dude.

+20 bags of Frito Lays Chili Cheese corn chips for totally high-jacking your post

that thing is awesome.

not trying to hijack about markets, economy, pricing, being rude, and what it makes you/the usmb look like....but others are in agreement:

One vote for approval of pricing. Just happens to be a tough time in the market. Right now, probably $8K or so tops.

Needs proper exposure.

the price might be a bit high, but how many other brats do you see in that condition, all original? the brats that have been rebuilt and patched up to look good go for like $5k, so why not spend more for one that hasnt been damaged in any way?

if i had the coin, id get it, but unfortunatly, i am poor :(

TheSubaruJunkie

i'd ebay it

I couldn't agree with you more man. I just payed wayyy to much ( in my opinion ) for a good hatch. I wanted a clean, non tampered with one, and in order to find one in that condition the market demanded I pay XXX amount of dollars.

And just for clarity; I'm not burning this guy on his price of this car. His Brat is worth exactly whatever someone is willing to pay for it, it's that simple. My comment was made as to the Subaru market in general. Especially the 2nd gen stuff. I think everyone can remember these vehicles being had for next to nothing, if not nothing. Those days are quickly coming to an end. My comment was as to the situation of trying to find a good Brat, or Hatch, or now even a wagon. It's starting to get away from what the people that are into it love about it. Low budget, big grins entertainment..... at least that's why I'm here.

So, if I offended the seller....... too bad!!! You have a 15k mile Brat, and I don't! You don't need my apology!

looks like I missed the drama, but...

wow, that's probably the cleanest brat I've ever seen... definitely has the lowest mileage... I think with tax return season coming it's possible it could sell for $10,000... but not on this board... everybody here wants perfect brats for $2,500, or beaters for free... ebay is the place this gem will really shine, but you have to have a stellar ad to ensure it gets the attention it deserves...

bump for a super clean original pickup car...

Hmmm...I had no intention of stirring up such a fuss. I simply wanted the word out that I am ready to let go of probably the closest to perfect Brat in existence. Yes, I know everyone here (including me) enjoys finding cheap old Subies and that all of us get really excited by "great deals" on older technology we can restore and enhance. I understand that $10,000 is a lot of cash for most of us....But I paid that much, and I heard about this Brat here on this board.

If you think it looks clean on the outside, you can imagine my delight when i crawled underneath and discovered zero grease, oil, rust, dirt, or damage. Every nut, bolt, hose, bracket, flap, wire....everything, looks showroom perfect and un-molested.

I remember when this was first posted by the person you bought it from. It caused quite a stir THEN as well. 'Tis a beautiful thing.

Free bump for one of (if not THE) cleanest Brat(s) Ive ever seen!

I had a brat in that kind of condition from AZ. but with like 59K on it if I recall ..

I sold it on ebay for 6500, guy flew in from Ca. and drove her home never to heard from again, Im wondering did he go via the triangle ?

That color is my favorite just no cash and no job LOL ...

If I had a garage and financial security, I would make an offer.

Is $10K too much? Maybe, maybe not. It is very likely the closest to new BRAT in private hands.

Does it have that new BRAT smell?

Subaru USA actually does have some rarities tucked away....maybe you should call the folks in Cherry Hill and see if they are interested in adding this like-new BRAT.

And documentation stating mileage, service records, etc. You will have to prove the mileage to them. And any true collector for that matter.

Born_a_Brat
03-22-2008, 06:29 PM
Not sure i would know how to go about "proving" the milage. I received no service records from the original owner and I don't see how one would prove that the odometer had not simply been set back. It's pretty obvious when you look under the hood and underneath the vehicle that everything looks very new...you know, bright shiny bolt heads, no cracks in plastics, no trace of oil sludge indicating a steam-clean job. Suggestions anyone?

Gee,I would think SOA could do all the best evaluation of its authenticity. I mean its here, its solid, its clean...at this point do they really care that much? It's just going to sit there with the others, and never be judged by anyone ever.

Get all the shots you can of the underside, and anywhere rust normally occurred on those bodies. Maybe consider asking them if there's a regional SOA office you could drive to and have it evaluated there, assuming they're interested. Or bring it by a true classic car dealer and see what they can do for you, then email SOA.

Collectors might need all that info, but let's face it there's plenty of money in the hands of those who would buy it impulsively regardless of paperwork. Those folks aren't necessarily the collectors we think of,but to them its their collection and "points" mean nothing. To me,there's plenty of those folks around the NYC area. Just get it advertised properly and you'll fetch your price.

I would think that any factory Subaru Guru would be able to determine if the mileage is authentic with a proper inspection.

Cmon, were talking about a car that has only had five oil changes. The tires should be original, the clamps/bolts should be shiny, exhaust like new, no oil leaks, undercarriage paint like new, etc....

I suspect somone here is going to throw out the restored & rolled back conspiracy. SO, my preemptive response is c'mon, this is a BRAT, not a Shelby Mustang.

To add , I personally know of people - NOT RELATED TO ME - who have dumped many many thousands of dollars into cars worth a lot less than the work performed. The paperwork on these cars consists of next to nothing. An Aston Martin DB5 is one of the cars. Multi-millionaires - could care less about the paperwork. It found its way to them and that's all they care about. They don't even show the car anymore and we're lucky to have gotten them to take it out for one or two shows, that's it.

But anyways .... I hear you,Ken. That's kind of the way it should be.

Argue the point all day, everything is worth nothing unless someone is willing to pay for it or sell it. At this particular point in time, my '78 couldn't be sold for love nor money, even though I could seriously use the money. 'nuff said.

If you had an Scion XA with REALLY low miles on it I might consider a trade...but mostly right now I am looking for CASH since that's what I am short on...Got plenty of vehicles.
