1998 Outback 2.5L

When cold, after sitting all night, the automatic transmission will always kickdown initially, but once the car comes up to temp (4-5 blocks) you can slam the pedal all you want and it won't usually kickdown.

I say usually because sometimes it works just fine, but usually not.

* Downshifting still works flawlessly with the shifter
* Performance seems fine
* No CELs
* AT Temp light just comes on normal at startup, then goes off
* Checked continuity on TPS and it was correct
* Checked TPS and MAF function on OBDII logger and they look to be reporting correctly
* Did 2 drain/fills, fluid looked perfect

HELP! This is driving me crazy!

Now he wants to be like the rest of the young guys and have a muffler with some sound to it. Problem is here in small town Beckley WV the cops dont like loud mufflers and give these kids tickets for it. So what can my crazy boy put on there that would still be legal and give the 2.2 a good sound ???? Me myself I like it quiet so I can hear the engine if anything goes wrong. You cant hear a thing if the radio is blasting and the muffler is loud. lol thanks

I Just put in a pushbutton and figured I would share how I did it! Its a fun way to replace a non-functioning key switch and you kind of feel like your firing up the millennium falcon when you start your soober!

If you look at the diagram I have drawn up you'll see that I used 3 toggles and a momentary button all rated to handle at least 20amps. I cut the wires off of the existing switch, stripped them all back and crimped ring terminals to each wire. two of the switches and the momentary button were then mounted onto the switch board. I used the side panel off of an old computer tower to make my switch board and hooked it all up as follows...

(B=hot lead. A=accessory. IG=run. S=starter. R=some resistor thingy?)

I used 10ga primary wire for any new wiring that I put in and ring terminals to connect it all together. I used and old strike plate from the kitchen door that I bent and drilled to mount my hidden switch. And... Presto!

I feel that it's important to note that I did not install the stereo. its on my list of things to fix...

Hope this helps someone:)

-> Long time no see guys! I have a question on which aftermarket or factory stereo that is compatible for the EA82. I'm aware the EA82 has a weird fitment for the head unit. So now I'm tired of my stock system with no CD/Cassette player. :(

^ I will update the thread on any compatible factory or aftermarket recommended by USMB. (potential to be stickied)

Howdy!

(1992 legacy SW)
So I bent my strut cups on the way up alaska a while back, and the tires rubbed, but I moved em around and it hasnt been a problem....

But now Im about to go back through the Yukon on those BUMPY roads and I dont want my tires to start smoking from the rub...

I plan on finding the late 90's outback struts to replace the front (the only real issue as of now, rear seem fine) ones on mine. I was told they go right on fairly easily. My question is; Do I have to replace the rear at the same time? I still have my little lifter springs in my rear struts, so it might even out as far as front/back lift goes. I dont think I have the tools to retrofit the rear ones...so, I'm wanting to know if there is imminent disaster if just the front are replaced...
Also, I gotta do a search to see how to replace the front struts with the newer model ones, unless someone wants to hook me up, since I'm on my short lunch break @ work:rolleyes:

Cheers!

I couldn't think of the forum to put this in so i guess this will work....
I have just invested in a vacuum molding form machine so i am going to be experimenting with some custom pieces in the next few weeks here and possibly i will be making replica/custom peices that can feature custom logos, words, simple designs and lots more.....one of my main goals is to make a custom set of headlights using various "borrowed" parts from other cars, but i am going to start making the custom clear (or amber, red, etc) corner lenses and various other lenses for our cars since the aftermarket community has neglected us so much. :grin: I will upload some pix of the progress of the headlights and various other lenses that i am going to mess with (led tail lights and lots of other goodies in mind)......if anyone is interested let me know......i don't know how much it will be and how they will turn out at the moment but updates coming soon....
