rough idle. sounds like a cylinder is "dead"

Recommended Posts

my ea82 engine has a funny exhaust rhythm. what i mean is it seems to glug instead of being smooth. i was told that a cylinder may be missing or really low on compression. does this happen with anybody else's car?

i checked the ignition system first. it's just fine. i don't own a compression test so i don't have too much to go by.

how can i find out what cylinder it is?

thankya

when idling pull a plug wire... if the engine drops significantly then that cyl has good compression/ign. try it with each cylinder (replacing the wire before going to the next) If you find a cylinder where the engine does not change much... That's gonna be your bad cylinder. Then it could be no spark to that cylinder or no compression for whatever reason.
