garner
Hey all, I know its possible to swap some parts to put discs on an 03 TS. What I need to know is... Anybody have first, second, or even third hand experience with this swap? Complete parts list. What all is needed, what models of donor cars are suitable, etc. I have looked over at NASIOC but for some reason, I can't search the forums there, nor can I post:( (USMB is so much cooler anyway) any other ideas hair brain or not will be read thanks garner
outback_97
Garner: Not sure why a search on Nasioc didn't work for you, but here's some links I found, searching in the Brakes under "drum disc": http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=356215&highlight=disc+drum http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=299489&highlight=disc+drum http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=430969&highlight=disc+drum Not your year of car, but good info nonetheless: http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/disc/disc.html Hope these help. FWIW I have done a few writeups on TS mods myself, including speakers, fog lights, and map lights. Let me know if you are interested in any of that. mranlet
There are drums on an '03? I thought my CRX was the last of the drummed cars... I had 4-wheel disc on my '91 Legacy Turbo, but I can't remember if they came that way or if I did it - for maintenence's and safety's sake, discs are far superior to drums. You'll be glad that you did the swap (just try to get your brake bias a little toward the front or you may have a fishtailer on hard stops) -MR
applegump
Its disapointing to have Subaru build cars with rear drum brakes in the 21st century. Is it really that much cheaper? BTW the new Justy in Europe has the same setup.
garner
Thanks folks yes, it does suck that they put drumms on these cars. That's why I want to do the swap. thanks for searching for me on the NASIOC It seems like my account has been deactivated or something keep it coming garner
blitz
I have the rear drums on my '02 OBS and I actually find them to be quite good. It's the front disks that I find lacking.
garner
I guess part of my problem is that I just put some Tarmac 2 's on and I hate looking at those unsightly drums in the rear. Actually, the brakes are not bad on my TS. I'm just thinking ahead. As I work to make the car faster, it seems I should also start to worry about braking faster. I'd love to be able to use bigger front discs and some more performance minded pads etc.
