Anti-Theft Device

Hey all, I got a small problem I'm hoping someone could help with. I recently bought a 92 Loyale. Turned out to be a real lemon with no end of trouble, BUT, things are looking up. The question is, it won't start due to some strange anti-theft device. I need to bypass it at the starter but can't find any good documentation on how to do this. Could someone point me to information or provide the information? As it is now, it's just sitting there so any info would be really really great.

 

Long story short:

Get car from auction. Starts fine at first then refuses too. Take it into shop, they fix and tell me it was some anti-theft device. Drive it around for a week, engine blows. Take it to specialist and they drop a used00 EA82 into it. Now the anti theft thing is back.

Ughh. Please help!!! [Chiltons appears useless]

You could do what i did and bypass the whole ignition switch with a push button starter.

 

how hard are those to put in?

 

my 94 legacy that i have now came with a weird anti-theft device.you gotta put the left directional on before trying to start her,or the horn blows.gonna see if i can disconnect it.i sometimes forget to do what i have to and theres been times were i've startled some passer-bys

Just hard wire a button directly to the starter, you still have to have the ignition switch in the ON position but instead of turning the key to start it with the button.

 

I've never herd of an anti-theft that worked that way so i have no clue how to get the horn to stop honking, but im sure if you follow your turn signal switch wiring down from the colum you will see where someone has tapped into the wiring and then you sould be able to fallow that to the anti theft device!?! :confused:

Budda,

You may or may not have been fed some bowl o' chit

These cars have a habit of loosing the ability to crank over the engine for

several reasons.

 

One of which is worn contacts in the ignition switch.

 

Find the starter, on the back of it on top there is a small spade connector.

If you put battery voltage on this terminal it should crank.

 

 

Run a jumper lead from the battery positive to the starter contact, if this makes it crank

then put a test light on the terminal you removed.

 

Ground the other end of the test light and see if the light lights

when you turn the key to the start position.

 

If so then I would suggest putting a relay in as shown.

It is an aux lighting relay found at any auto parts place.

(I have had to do this to several of my L series cars)

Sometimes I tell my friends that my Subie has an exclusive automatic built-in anti-theft device. They say Really? I say yeah, you can see it on the side of the fender down there, where it says S-U-B-A-R-U.

 

OK, no flames please, it's just a funny. I'm a Subaru lover... been driving nothing else since 1978, and I'm on my 3'rd one. Cheers and peace.

8 months later, sure enough, the beast did exactly that. I was pulling my hair out wondering what the hell was up. Then I remembered your advice and gave it a check. To an experienced wrench, some of the most obvious problems completely boggle us just learning the in's and out's of our subby's. To you that take the time to reply and help us through the more mundane subby trouble, I tip my hat. Can't thank you enough. Seriously, the gratitude is flowing. :clap::drunk:
