78 Brat: note of thanks to Biffanyus

Recommended Posts

I went and picked up Tommy's Brat today.

Little over a hundred and twenty five mile drive to the storage facility from his place.

She drove like a dream, even though we had white out snow in some places, sunshine in others.

Before we left, I put a new T stat in her and used a stick to hold open the choke as the element is bad or....

Tommy is one kewl dude, a pleasure to deal with, and I sure hope he stays connected

with our community after he moves back to Fla.

Just have to say thanks and props to such a great guy and a nice Brat that has seen it's last snow fall

for as long as I own it - which will be a long time.

Thanks again mate, happy holly daze

and good luck with the move.

Thanks Shane. You got a mighty fine deal on the EA82 82. Good luck with it.

I have already committed to getting the 78 squirted professionally.

She will take her place as one of my pride and joys

in my pride of Brats.(5 1/2 and counting)

She even has a tow hitch for towing the Brat gokart (1/2) on it's trailer.

Wish they could be the same color but I can't bring myself to change either

from their factory colors.

Happy Holly Daze to all

Mary, Haven't seen that particular postcard. I fished this unit out of the Bay of E(vil)

a couple years ago.

Still all original (including decals) but the engine is a bit tired.

I just bought a brand new Subaru (Robins) 8.5 HP OHV lump for it.

Hopefully see it and the Tommy Brat at Calisle this year.

It would be my esteemed pleasure to give you a ride in either.

Jason, I did get some engine parts but the parts you speak of (cam followers) probably went to

Shane. He bought Tommy's 82 with the EA82 in it.

Thanks Jason but this kind of throws me

"cam and followers"

Now you either mean "lifters" or

you and Tommy have developed a

new style OHC EA71? ;^)

and yes there are extra cams and lifter assemblies

in the parts stash

but only one piston?

The engine runs real sweet.......

now that

the choke is held open with

a bit of a locust tree

- there is a carb and manifold

in the stash - hoping the choke element is good

Need to do some trouble shootin'

to see why the auto choke

is not opening -

and please, I will not

convert to a manual choke.

A Weber DGAV maybe ?

Does anybody know where the "Y" pipe

develops cracks?

(still has the heat shields

so I can't see where the break is).

Once again I thank yins for all the input

Happy Holly Daze

I do have a lead on a 79 Subaru wagon, looks to be in decent shape but I cant do a project now. I wish I could. Anyone looking to donate a nice gen1 brat in the south???? I miss my 78 brat. That was going to be my baby. Skip, I know shes in good hands. Thanks all for the nice comments. I hope to have my dream gen 1 brat someday again. Later.......
