bheinen74 Posted September 22, 2009 Share Posted September 22, 2009 on the dash , near the turn signal lever down where there is a hole on the dash on the flat part of it, near the light switch. the relay is on the passenger right shock tower with all the other relays....it has a pink connector with like 5 or there abouts wires.... ferox Posted September 23, 2009 Share Posted September 23, 2009 You might also try re-soldering the one of the connections on the front of the motor itself. The door on my '81 stopped opening and I re-soldered the green wire IIRC, and it works great now. If I am not mistaken this is a common problem on these units. TomRhere Posted December 30, 2009 Share Posted December 30, 2009 Had same issue with the '82. Pulled the unit and looked at the solder joints. Quite obvious that those were the problem on mine. Thanks much Nothing yet (that I know of), Little bro has his car now, but I am uncertain if the light was ever fixed before he picked it up. gadberry Posted January 25, 2010 Share Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) '81 4x4 wagon w/passing lamp I got busy trying to fix my passing lamp yesterday, but ran outta daylight before I could completely remove it.. (front bumper will have to be removed before i can pull it). My light works, but the door/cover will not open. My question to those who have a functional lamp would be this.. Should I be able to open the lamp door by hand, by rotating the lever behind the motor? If so, then I believe mine to be frozen up, but if not, then maybe I just have the 'bad solder connections' on the front of the door motor... The most common 3rd-eye failure, according to other USMB users.. .
