Tom63050
Thinking of moving to WV and would like to know the smog laws there. I've got an 84 lifted wagon with a Weber. What counties don't have emissions inspections? (Looking at the Harpers Ferry/Charlestown area.) If they have emissions inspections, do they do an underhood visual inspection or just sniff the tailpipe?
subydoo
No emissions test in the southern part of WV. I'd guess that there isn't any in the north.
WagonsOnly
According to Steve (TROGDOR!) they're very tough on rust down there.
TROGDOR!
NO emissions inspection whatsoever!! However, the car must have a visual safety inspection once a year. All lights and glass must be clear and uncracked, all lights have to work, tires must have good tread, brakes must work, cv's have to be good, etc etc. ANY rust holes will instantly fail the car. As for the emissions- the car must have a complete exhaust system and exit out the rear. This means no holes in the pipe, and you must have a cat and a muffler. They don't actually inspect whatever comes out though, all they do is look at it.
