Hey everyone,
I have an '83 GL wagon, the vehicle speed sensor is unpluged and i havent been able to find where it plugs in, or which wires coming out of the ECU plug into it. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this?

Thanks

Kevin I have a FSM for the 83 and I'm sorry I do not see the VSS connecting to the ECM control unit.
The VSS is generated in the speedometer head unit.
Exits as a yellow with red tracer wire from terminal 45 on the speed-0 conntector.
It is used for the CC and the TC but does not appear to be an ECM input.
Could it be a late build date 83, making it an 84?
Hope someone has a better answer.

Its a cable driven off the transmission. Your cable is either broken internally or disconnected.

is the speedo itself working? tjhe sensor is in the instrument cluster, and is for things like cruise control

so if speedo isnt reading, check the cable. my 83 wagonhad cruise

on jims sedan, he accidentally pulled away the speedo cable while changing heater hose, thus resulting in no speedo, and a VSS code on the ecu

ok, it could be an '84, i checked the tag in to door and it had the date 7/83.

The speedo is working. i am getting code 22, when i had the dash apart to fix some other stuff, i noticed that the 2 wires coming off the back of the speedo werent pluged into anything.

Checked for code in BAT auto

22 --- Ignition pulse system (1983 only)/Vehicle speed sensor or circuit or VLC solenoid valve or circuit. (1984 to 1988 carbureted)

checked mine from the board's repair manual

1983
22 --- Ignition Pulse System

1984
22--- Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) or Circuit

Is it an automatic?

Wasn't the change to hyd lifters made between 83 and 84?
On the automatic cars??

What colors are these wires ?

If nobody else comes to the rescue, I'll dig out my 84 FSM and see what it says.

Your welcome

the manufacture date is July 1983, so it could be an '84 depending on when the cut off date is.

its a manual, 2wd 5spd
I dont know about the lifters
i think the wires were black with a red strip and yellow, i'll check this tomorrow.

Thanks
