Hello, Fellow Subaru owners. I have a 1993 Impreza LS. The VIN code says that the car has a 1.8 L as does the sticker under the hood, but in actuality, the car has a 2.2L The car was owned by my wifes grandmother before we aquired it and the engine was never changed to anyones knowledge. Could this have been some sort of "special edition" or could a fast one have been pulled at some time. I highly doubt the latter, but you never know.

I am also in the process of changing timing belt and all oil seals under timing cover. What is the best way to get the camshaft seals out?

Thanks in advance for all you input and help.

Are you sure it's a 2.2L? The engines are almost identical cosmetically. The easy way to tell is to look at the Engine ID that's cast into the block. It's located under the power steering pump and it will say either EJ18 or EJ22, the 18 is for 1800cc and the 22 is for 2200cc.

The two do look very similar, but check the code on the block where Craig mentioned...

There are plenty of ways to get cam seals out, everything from just prying it out with a flathead screwdriver (without knicking any surfaces) or drilling a hole in the seal, putting a screw in it and then pulling it out... etc. etc.
