lefiche Posted February 11, 2004 Share Posted February 11, 2004 Hy guys im kinda newbie here but i'm learning just as always. i recently bought a 93 justy 4x4 push buttom manual transmition. it has come to my mind that in this car the 4th and the 5th gear are very much alike, and since i travel like 500 miles (once a week) at a speed of 80mph to have 5k on the tacho in 5th gear makes no cheap tripp. so i have to ask this. Can i change this gear so that the same 80mph can be achieved with 3.5 to 4k rpm?? english is not my native tongue so excuse the incoherences. bye. I speak english all the time but doesn't help my incoherences! There is not much that can be done on the cheap. I too am stuck making my commutes at 5K. And yes the gas milage sucks. You either have to make a new 5th gear set or change the final drive ratios in both the front and rear. Neither of these are cheap. I can't wait to see the look on my wife eyes when I say "do you know they have Justys in Chile?" Then she'll ask me when can we move! lefiche Posted February 12, 2004 Author Share Posted February 12, 2004 Here a liter of gas worth just a few less than a liter of pisco does. i have to say that i've considered to put some high octane pisco in my tank and let my justy fly............ just kidding. let's stop messing and go for the serious. does anyone of you nice people can provide this trubled man with some scans of the gear box?? perhaps i might be able to make my own way through this whit that info. Esteban32696 Posted February 14, 2004 Share Posted February 14, 2004 As stated above, changing to a larger diameter tire size can achieve the higher speed with less RPM's. But a trade off is more top heavy, finding rims & tires that fit, & inaccurate speedometer. I don't know if you have 12" or 13" tires, but use the chart http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Just use your original tire size on the left & try different sizes on the right.
