I got this from cfwdfw today since I travel this on a regular basis. But I thought it might impact competitors, service crews, and spectators travelling to and from Olympus via I-5 south of Olympia.

Subject: Future Weekends in April Traffic Delays on I-5

FYI

DOT: I-5 delays could reach 5 hours

Anyone who dares take Interstate 5 near Lacey over the next several weekends could wind up sitting in their car for hours.

A major construction project is about to start - and a big orange sign at the site says it all: "Major Traffic Impact Coming."

In a worst-case scenario, motorists at certain times could be stuck up to five hours.

Up to 150,000 drivers pass through the affected stretch of I-5 each day, but state Department of Transportation engineers say they can't delay the project any longer.

The highway pavement is crumbling and needs reinforcing, says Project Engineer Neil Uhlme.

Crews will cut slats in the existing concrete, put dowels in and then grout to seal that up. The work could create massive bottlenecks.

The construction work will take place in Thurston County between Martin Way and Mounts Road.

On the weekend of April 9, southbound traffic will be down to one lane from 7 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Saturday, then from 7 p.m. Saturday to noon on Sunday.

The following weekend, northbound I-5 will be down to one lane at the same times on the same stretch of highway.

But the "biggie" will come the weekend of April 23. On Friday night, one northbound lane will shut down. Then on Saturday all lanes headed north will shut down from 10 p.m. Saturday night to 10 a.m. Sunday.

If people don't reroute, delays could reach five hours and the backup could extend as far as about 21 miles.

The detour takes you off the highway and along Marvin Road through Lacey.

And there is more construction to come along I-5.

Visit the state DOT's Web site for a closer look at times and details.
