switching out engines

Recommended Posts

so im not sure if its possible but i want to get the power of an STI or WRX in any subaru. i was planing on a salvage title impreza or legacy or outback with a newer STI or WRX engine either one or two generations ahead but dont know if that work. the legal isnt my issue, just the mechanics. copart.com has the parts but has the different generation motors or car type that different.

It's definitely possible. Check out this vid for proof. What it does take is time, a LOT of research, lots of spare parts, or a shitload of money. But yes, you can swap a turbo EJ engine. Putting aside all of the wiring issues, you can put an STI/WRX engine in an EA82, but it does require some fabrication skills and a bit of mechanical knowledge and common sense. In the EA81's, its a little harder. Try Numbchuxs' EA to EJ Swap, stickied on the top of the forum, and the search bar. There's LOTS of good info out there.

^Where did you get EA82 from? he specifically said getting an impreza or legacy and putting a WRX or STi engine in it.

answer is, easy, common. been done THOUSANDS of times. been documented hundreds and hundreds of times.

Oh sorry, I thought when he said "Salvage Impreza or Legacy" he meant actually getting a salvaged crashed one and taking the engine out of it. Disregard my previous post. :)

With the right tools, knowledge, and time, basically anything is possible. I've seen EVERY newer Subaru engine ever made in that chassis, I've seen Toyota and NIssan straight 6's, Domestic V8s, etc. FWD, AWD/4WD, RWD. It's basically all been done....

You need to evaluate what you're able to do yourself. If you need to pay someone to do anything, you need to find that person, and see what THEY are capable of.
