interesting week..

Recommended Posts

Well, it snowed here, finally. (south texas) played with the car in the snow, it was GREAT! but i broke an axle... No biggie,

did the RWD conversion and drive with the DIFF LOCK on

and its great. the rear LSD makes the fun factor of the car in the dry move from a 6 to a 10... just thought i would throw that out there!

but my clutch has been "going" for a while,(slippin under boost) and its now time to change. Im going to replace with the xt6 clutch setup, since i have all the parts! So after work im going to change the clutch.

Im thinking, since the front axles are gone, wouldnt it be easier to pull the tranny than the motor to swap the clutch?

or should i pull the motor live ive done a few times before?

the easiest way i have ever done is partially pulled the motor

what i did was pull the radiator, removed the niuts from the motor mounts, and disconnected the heater hose. i used a crane to pick the motor up enough to slikd it forward in the car. i had a jack under the tranny so the motor would slide away without the motor mouhts catching. took me about 2 hours, taking my time

Put the trans in gear, and put a socket on the front pulley so you can turn the crank as you install it. That should help you line up the shaft easier.

Pulling the tranny is a pain unless you have a lift and a transmission jack. Figure on at least two people, and don't forget that you have to drain the tranny fluid or you will have a HUGE puddle when you remove the driveline.

Could be that your clutch isn't aligned quite right.. even having the splines a tiny bit off center will make it not stab properly.. do you have a clutch alignment tool?

BTW.. I always take the motor completely out anyway.. I figure that if I am going to go through the trouble of taking it part way out, I may as well take it all the way out for more room to work.. It also gives me a chance to inspect all those pesky little turbo hoses..

clutch is in - along with the xt6 flywheel goodies

how long to break in, it still slips a little when i dump it..

that should go away after a while right? :(

  • 4 weeks later...

MilesFox,

Does your Soob have A/C? When you partially pulled the motor, by removing the radiator to make room, did the A/C coils in front of the radiator get in the way? Or did you take them out too?

(You folks are a goldmine of info, can't thank you enough.)
