Brake Problems.

Recommended Posts

So after working on my brothers brakes in his cutlass i thought i would check out the tauruses brakes. I didnt half to check far. Both rear brakes rotors are covered in rust. Like they havent been used in quite a while. All the braking is being done up front. Before i dig into this i was wondering if anyone had come across this problem before. Could the calipers be siezed open. Maybe the sliders need greased, or my porpotioning valve is garbage. Any other ideas would be very helpfull.

Sounds like the piston is just stuck from rust, does he drive this car everyday or has it sat in the yard for a while? Cause even with rust the piston should still be able to move a little (Hydraulics have a lot of pressure ya know) and even if the slider pins rusted and the caliper was stuck to them, the piston should push out enough to still hit the pads.

Another idea is, does it have a hand brake? If so that would be manuel cable type (Not hydraulic) so thats one way to see if fluid is getting to the rear or not. If it grabs then you know somethings fishy with the brake lines.
