xforxlifex
My Rx has been in a shop for about 5 days now and they still dont know why its not getting spark. Im starting to think that the ecu might be toast. I need some advice. Should i sell it or try and find either a used one from someone on the board or new one from the dealer if that is possible to get. Thanks Mike
viceversa
Incredibly, I had a bad ECU. Total failure, just quit on the side of the road. At 180,000 miles. Incredible. It was in the middle of rural nowhere too, at least not late at night.
calebz
You would not be the first person to have a bad ECU.. Mine went up in smoke about 7-8 months ago.. Another board member came to the rescue with a used one.. its not a common problem, but I have seen it a few times now( all on turbo cars.. hmmm).. If it has taken 5 days and they still don't know why it isn't getting spark, and they think it might be a bad ECU, I would consider taking it to another shop.. maybe one that has more subaru experience..thats way too much time for a 'professional' to be working on it, without giving you any answers. There is a very thorough troubleshooting tree for ECU problems in the FSM, which your mechanic should have access too in some form or other.. if he doesn't have access to it, he's wasting your time. I think you should just send your RX to me.. I promise to give it a good home. What year is your RX? BTW, as a concerned citizen, I recommend against calling the dealer for a price on an ECU.. I would really hate to hear that you had a stroke when they told you how much they charge for old soob stuff.
xforxlifex
Sure Caleb. Its an 89. If you want it you can drive all the way to Massachusetts from Texas. Yea the subaru dealers are notorious for ripping you off on the old oem parts. I was just thinking of that as last resort.
Skip
This has been mentioned so I will not reiterate. It had the Suby Stealerrship fooled/stumped near me. Guess they forgot the old Subies had these, good luck. I'd atleast try another coil bracket
xforxlifex
Skip, its funny that you mention that. I got the car back today and thats what it was. They replaced the coil bracket and the ignition relay. Both toast. I guess something shorted out when i started it up. So im a very relieved man tonight. I wouldnt want to have to give up my rx. I love that car and ive never seen another in person. Mike
