I would like to save as much $$$ as possible but don't want to use junk parts either. What do you guys think of Clevite bearings? Cause they're on ebay for like $12. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks. Clevite has been around quite awhile. I did a quick search on eBay and only found undersized bearings. I bring this up just in case you overlooked sizing. nickolai Posted December 16, 2010 Author Share Posted December 16, 2010 Thanks for the input. I've asked a couple people locally too and it sounds like the Clevite bearings are pretty decent. As for sizes, undersize is what I need. The crankshaft was pretty scored so I had it turned down to .25mm main, and .50mm rod. Might want to check into this. Main bearings say they are oversize rather than undersize. Simply a nomenclature issue, or are these for resized bearing saddles? Probably right on the main bearings being the same for EA61/EA71 and EA81. (Got to love parts commonality!) Rod bearings are clevite, main bearings are indeterminate but probably decent, and rings are from a common maker/distributor so should also be decent. Undersized is needed when the crank shaft surface is machined. Oversized is needed when the connecting rod journals are machined. If neither has been machined, you need standards. I always use a bit of emery cloth to polish the surfaces prior to installing new bearings too. And can I ask why you are so hung up on buying motor parts like bearings off of ebay?? Rockauto has these clevite connecting rod and main bearings available. It might cost a bit more but you know you are getting the correct parts.
