What are the linitations in creating a FWD switch off a 4EAT?

Recommended Posts

On the 4EAT transmisions there is the socket that you can pop a 15 amp fuse into, wich puts it into fwd. It's a cool little thing, made for driving with a spare tire, diagnostics, and when your bein towed. I do realize that there is no real benefit to putting your car into front wheel drive, yet its kinda fun to do in the rain:D . From what i've heard there is no real danger to doing this, heard that its possible to burn up your transfer clutch, but i have no idea.

My point, i want to wire up a switch so that i can put it in fwd without popping my hood, i was thinking of a switch, (2 spades in the fuse holder) and a 15 amp inline fuse. Sounds pretty simple to do, but what are my limitations in activating this?

Can i turn it on driving?

ideling?

in gear?

Car on at all?

what am i facing here?

you can just cut the fuse holder off and splice some wires to the dash to a toggle switch. There is a light on the dash that shows when you are in fwd. I did that to the turbo wagon so I could do burnouts and reverse 180s

I engaged disengaged when moving but not under acceleration or hard turning. I didnt try to push the limits though. Most the time I switched it when stopped.

try this....although you will all be envious.

On my justy i have a rear handbrake. And i'm going to use another handbrake switch, so when i have it in 4wd, and pull up on the e-brake for a hairpin, it will pop into 2wd and lock the rear wheels, when i release the e-brake it'll pop back into 4wd.

Just like the WRC Cars....but in a justy....a turbo one at that

yea, i don't know about the justy's, but my car, and most other subarus that i have seen or worked on, the e-brake applies in the front and the back, the newer cars do not, but the older ones do. good luck gettin that to work if you can, thats going to be awesome.
