RX won't start, need help..

Recommended Posts

well i've swapped the motor, changed everything i could think of..

now i've plugged everything in, i get spark that will jump an inch from a screwdrive to a strut bolt. so yes i have spark..

i also have fuel getting to the fuel rails. so yes my fuel is pumping..

but the damn thing won't even attempt to start.. not even get a hint of a hit on any cylinder.. now if i had it outa time it would at least hit once in awhile on a cylinder here and there.

i did change the fuel injectors before puttin it all back together.. and i forgot which plug went on which injector.. but i swapped plugs on the injectors in every way there is, and it made no difference...

now i know theres a few vacuum lines still off but that shouldn't make it not attempt to start..

the car basically has spark, fuel, and sits there and cranks like a dead yugo..

is it possible my fuel injectors are frozen? although a couple of them were from my old turbo wagon, and they worked fine..

help

did you do the belts or have the dist out?

when we did alleyboys motor, it almost fired but didnt light up. it all came down to unplugging the mpfi harness connectors and re-plugging them in, and it fired up nicely

what about the ground wire off the water pipe?

did you connect the fuel lines properly? the line off the filter goes to the INJECTOR side of the fuel rail, and the return line is AFTER the regulator

injector wiring matter not on these motors all 4 injectors fire at once

in fact most injected vehicles un less sequentially fired they all fire at the same time

if its way far far out of time it may not even randomly catch or backfire

what color is the spark? under compression it does change the amount of voltage to create a spark ..

if its orangish color get a new coil or plug wire

check that the plu wires are on the cap in the correct order

i am sure you have done that but hell i have gotten it mixed up too

hmm i know i am forgetting something ..

ps the hard drive and powersteering work fine

i had that motor down to a bare block, lol.. so everything was done.. i know 100% that the t-belts are on correctly..

i unplugged the harness and back in twice.. and the ground wire is on the waterpipe..

guess i need to play with some fule lines, maybe i got them on wrong.. it was dark when i gave up for the night.. also breakin out the fsm for it too..

for fuel lines.. there are 3 metal lines on the intake, and only 2 from the strut tower.. wheres the 3rd one? and which hose goes on what line? would make sense if i'm tryin to pump fuel in it backwards, lol..

i'm runnin an accel coil.. it originally came off the rx and went on my hatch when the rx blew up.. and i took it back off the hatch and put it on the rx for the startup.. so i know the coil is good..

but over a 1 inch space the spark is orange.. but one would think if it worked on the car before, was in use on the hatch, and now back on the original car, it would still fire the car even if its weak..

i think it might be in the fuel lines.. if not there i'll go buy a new coil and see is she runs..

ohh plug wires are 8mm spiral core accell wires :D

Stupid question-

Did you happen to plug the third wire into the starter? Not exactly sure what it does- theres the power, ground, and this third one attached to a small lug that slides in on the solenoid. Without it plugged in the car will act exactly as you describe. I had one once where the connector was bent and it looked connected but wasn't making contact.

double check the timing belts for your DISTY timing. make sure you line 0deg btdc after you bring the drivers side cam back to 1200, after finishing the passenger belt install

http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/subaru/service/timingbelt.htm

on the fuel rails, the line that goes to the injector rail, you will see it go to the injectors on the driver side, that is the PRESSURE LINE from the filter

the line off the FPR, it goes straight out, that is the return line

the 3rd line comes up fro the framerail by the hill holder, it has a fat foam casing, that is the tank vent line, it goes to the purge control

is your ecm spitting out any codes? even if its not running it will tell you what is wrong, like a 11 blinking on the led on the computer would tell you you hooked up the yellow ig pulse wire wrong, or not tight. or you could get a 14 or 15 which are the injectors not working. have you pulled a plug to make sure there is gas in there? are your vac advance hooked up? have you loosened the screw and tried retarding or advancing it to get it started? the vac lines off could mess with the maf sensor, and it would think its not getting enough air, because its all coming after the sensors, through vac lines. good ole efi! good luck.
