CD Player in a 98 Legacy L Sedan

Recommended Posts

Hi. Anyone have any recommendations/links/suggestions for putting a CD player in my 98 Legacy? I don't need anything fancy. Just looking for a fairly simple to install model so I can listen to CD's during long commutes. Anyone have any success or like a particular brand/model? Any info appreciated.

Thanks

Pick up a used Double DIN unit from the Imprezas and Forester from recent years. 6 CD, tape, radio. It's what I did for my 97 OB.

I believe there is a different model again now in the past year or so. I don't know about it, but the P123 fits right in (you lose the cubby hole) and plugs right in. No adaptation needed.

I grabbed one out of a junk yard for $100 and added it to my 98 OBW. It's a single CD player that was an option and fits right in like previously mentioned. The hardest part is the 8 or so screws holding on trim and radio.

A few months ago I posted the whole process, maybe you could search and find it. If not let me know and i'll sit in the car and retrace steps. The option plugs right in, no fuss, no messy rewiring

I already had a CD player but I was recently looking at stereos for my 98 too after spilling Coke in my existing one. :o I'm not an audiophile or anything like that so I like factory stereos because it seems like they're less likely to be stolen. I was searching eBay and found a pretty constant supply of them by searching for subaru radio, but mine ended up working okay after it dried out.

I'll second that on the JVC. I have had the KDS-770 and the 890 and both have worked well with the subby wiring harness spliced in, then it is a simple plug and play. Aftermarket speakers work nice to, I have the factory tweeters in the doors pillar still. Out of all the decks I have owned, alpine, kenwood, sony, MEI, rockford, the JVC has been great.
