I have heard from a couple of places that the seats from 96 to 99 are compatiable. I would like to hear from the board as to your thoughts on the difference between the two. It seems to me that they would be more comfortable. They have more give and are smoother. As was mentioned the cloth seats also generate more static, I agree to the static as well. mtsmiths Posted March 11, 2004 Share Posted March 11, 2004 We had a New Yorker (don't ask) when we lived in Tucsom. It had all the top-of-the-line features, including leather. I called it the Volare wearing a Tuxedo. You could generate an inch long blue spark from your fingertip to the door handle sliding across those seats. I also found the leather hotter in summer and colder in winter. That car got me over leather lust. Take a tip from aviation, and fit a set of aftermarket REAL sheepskin covers. Get the shorter sheared ones, in a color compatible with your interior. They look nice, are the most comfortable, and can be taken off and hand washed in Woolite if you get them dirty. But it tends to be cold in winter, heat leather is wonderful btw, but it is kind of hot in the summer so be sure you ac is fully charged. Leather is actually a bit more work because to keep it looking nice you should treat it every 6-8 months to keep if from cracking and such. FillG Posted March 11, 2004 Share Posted March 11, 2004 During the winter, the leather seats are definitely colder. If you're going to get leather, get heated leather. The only problem with that is the heating elements are fairly fragile so you have to be careful not to put your knees in the the seat and stuff like that. During the summer, I haven't noticed a problem with them being too hot but my Subaru sits in the driveway most of the summer while I drive the Miata (with the top down) and it has cloth seats. cookie Posted March 11, 2004 Share Posted March 11, 2004 I had a Jag that lived in a damp climate and the leather seats went to heck. I now have a BMW with leather and here in SF it is fine. My Subaru has cloth. The Subaru might be a bit more comfy but is not wearing as well and God help me if I stain it. One other question might be is do you have dogs or kids? Its ok because I can beat on it and not feel bad about it. The soob gets all the dirty jobs.. dog hauling.. stuff hauling.. My camry has leather.. but the wife drives it.. I miss leather.. I find the leather to be much more supportive to the back, and it has made a difference for me on long trips. Agree that they are hotter in summer and colder in winter. Mine are heated so n/p in winter, (except the first few minutes), and it's garaged so generally not hit by direct sunlight. Cleanup is easier fpr the occasional spill. I say, go for the leather!
