C/v joint of what??...Please Help

Recommended Posts

My fiances '94 Imprezza (2WD) 5-spd. has a torn boot on the drivers-side...It doesn't seem to be the CV joint but it's below it...Sorry for the vauge explaination, but it's starting to make noises and is getting on my nerves - so it's time to track down the part name etc. and get it fixed.....Anyway, it's skinnier than the CV, but has a boot...If anyone knows what I'm talking about I could use your help. Thanks!

It is an expensive little bugger and the best/ only way I know to replace it is to remove the outer tie rod with a puller or pickle fork and then take off the tie rod. Clean and mark the position of the tierod to the shaft and count the number of turns to remove! Then you can slip off the boot and replace. The stock clip is not very good at securing the boot in the little chanel in the shaft. I used a zip tie to hold mine on.

Hope you are not having noise from the rack! That could be expensive. My boot had slipped down over the inner tie rod and started making a groan going over bumps. What sound is it making?

You can cleanout the inner tie rod and pack with grease with the boot off.

It should not be too bad of a job if you take your time. Save a bundle over the dealership!
