83pickle Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 I am curious to know if ANY 6 lug steel wheel can be drilled to match the old 4 lug pattern? I see tons of posts talk about it, but don't make it clear if its any 6 lug wheel. Mainly looking at a set of Toyota 15" 6 lug wheels and figure drilling the wheel is easier than drilling the hubs. Also, my plan is to mount some 155/60R15 snow tires. The overall diameter is an inch smaller than my 185/70R13s. Question for that is will my EA81 have any issue turning that combination? Gloyale Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 If the overall diameter is the same or smaller, the EA81 will turn it just fine. The extra weight of the 15" rim is counteracted by less sidewall rubber weight on the tire. You can't use just any wheels though. 1) they must have a flat center, suitable for drilling a hole through. Lots of stamped steelies have ridges or bumps between the factory holes, so you can't redrill them. 2) If this isn't going on a wheeler, you probably don't want your tires to stick out. So, you will need to find rims with a very shallow offset. Toyota pickup rims from 89-93ish? work perfect. Almost all the other 6 lug rims I've seen are deeper offset and will stick anywhere from 1-3 inches out from the fenders. these are the Yota rims you want... Subruise Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 i used 6X140 wheels off a 91 mitsubishi montero and the offset is perfect. i can tuck all four. the are 15" and dont stick out like a lot of chevy/yota wheels that ive seen. bear in mind not all yota wheels will stick out. I figured on the flat center part, I just didn't know if just because it's a 6 lug wheel, it has the proper bolt pattern. I know i didn't think about the offset so that's some good info.
