I'm looking into buying a cold air intake for my '97 Legacy Wagon, and noticed that many, such as the Weapon R, cost around $170-200. My brother's friend pointed out this site, and I was curious if I would have to do any/many modifications to make this kit fit on my car. Also, I've read that many people replace stock Cold Air Filters with K&N Cone Filters. Is that worth it?

By the way, you all seem very nice, and I love the atmosphere here!

yea that should fit, no mods necesary at all, both cars share the same engine (ej22) <-right? but it'll fit perfectly. And by the way, the cold air intake is so expensive becuase subaru performance parts are not so common, check a civic prices, 20$!! lol.

Actually, the Legacy GT has the EJ25. I know they make intake kits for the EJ22. When you get the intake kit, check the contents very carefully. Mine came without the MAF sensor billet adapter. Injen had to mail one to me separately. Also, the Injen has a bracket attached to the main intake tube that didn't fit anywhere on my manifold. It looks like it is supposed to be mounted where the plug wire loom is mounted, but it's way off. It doesn't make any noise, so no problems so far.

I too have a 97 legacy 2.5 gt, I found a few aftermarket intakes and on you should check out at boxer racing, in the mean time you can install a k&n air filter replacement for your stock filter and just remove the airbox from inside the fender. I definetly felt a performance difference from the stock setup.

Leaving the OE box in, and fitting a K&N is plenty. HOWEVER, you must use a short pipe, that ends in a "velocity stack" (trumpet shape to avoid turbulence) to suck colder air from the fender cavity.

All the extra money spent on the pre-fabricated kits only improves the look underbonnet - and makes things louder, but often less musical.
