It Moved! long

Recommended Posts

Had some time last night and I threw some gas in the tank of Summer. Not really knowing what to expect, I figured I'd turn the key and find out what would happen? I double checked all the electrical connections, fluids, connected the battery and turned the key!

Of course the battery cranked real slow. I had charged the battery off and on since I removed it last July. Guess I wasted my time there. So I went and got the Trooper and jumped the battery. Cranked fast but did not start?

Undetured, I stole the snowmoble starter fluid and shot a dash in the carb. Climbed back in, crossed my fingers and turned the key...

It fired! Smoked a tiny bit, slightly more than it used to on a cold morning. The engine sounded....well....the same:D I was hoping the Cherry Bomb Turbo II would change the sound but it sounds about like it did with my old muffler.

At that point my boys and I piled in and went for many trips up and down the drive way. The only thing that kept me from taking a quick dash out on the street was the fact that I had piles of tools on the fenders, roof and rear of the buggy.

One thing I noticed....at lower speeds (like driveway speeds), those deep lug tires are brutal! The buggy shakes each time a lug hits the ground. I'm looking forward to serious traction:grin:

At somewhere over 5 mph the tires seem to mellow out and just roll instead of klunk!

Only thing that seemed wrong was the idle seemed high. I kept releasing the choke and it would idle down but would slowly climb back up in rpms. This could be because it may not have been totally warmed up. The heat gauge did move up about 1/4 of the way though? Would a vacuum line cause any of this high idling? I'll let it warm up tonight and see if the idle calms down.

Anyway, I'm happy!!!!

mtsfabman,

All the pics I have are Here!

It's a rough time line done with my video camara for still pics.

(I maintain the basic tube chassis could be done in two weeks just working evenings)

The things I have left are mostly cosmetic, however they are time consuming. (finish dashboard/console, mount tail lights, install rear floor, rear seats, rear fenderwells and mount the winch!) Done!

Glenn,

82 Summer, almost done!

Funny you should mention that?

I've been thinking on doin that! Checker plate and Rhino lining--what a concept! Could it get any cooler?

I've been looking at the different methods of applying that stuff. My worry in spraying is on a tube frame most of it will end up as overspray:mad: Rolling may leave a real rough finish and brushing may leave too smooth of finish?

I'm looking for a spatter finish about the consistency of a textured wall or Rhino liner?

Anyone had any experience/recomendations for a tube frame application?

The Krylon I put on originally will scrape just by looking at it!

Ideas?
