WJM Posted March 21, 2004 Author Share Posted March 21, 2004 The springs are too tall. Sits the car up about 1.5 inches too far front, and 2.5 inches rear. And the rear springs dont want to sit to well in the perches...so, gotta cut and mod. The rates...be ready....1200 front, and 1200 rear. Yes, 1,200 POUNDS. Its really quite harsh of a ride....the struts had enogh to dampen the yellow springs...250 front and 330 rear....but these....bounce. Its fine in turns and over bumps....its the DIPS that are so bad. And my Camber is gone!!! its about 1 negative degree now...i had about 2.5 or more....so, need to go lower. I know i have to go shorter with stiffer springs to maintain height....the original fronts were 10 or...the yellows were 9, or 8.5....and the golds are 8. The rears were 11, and the yellow was 10. But Pleiades and I have come up with a solution to the sever underdampenness....more to come as we play with that option. Ofcourse, positive camber front. LOL It had about 2~3 (somewhere in there) degs of NEGATIVE camber on the front....helps to have camber plates too. oddcomp Posted March 22, 2004 Share Posted March 22, 2004 just a silly idea that occured for anyone else wanting this mod i mentioned bronco springs erlier up has anyone thought of the progressive springs founf on some truks?? cut them down to fit and for normal highway driving they have some give to them for agressive driving / offroad once the spring compresses a certain amount it gets much stiffer... just a idea.. PoorManzImpreza Posted March 22, 2004 Share Posted March 22, 2004 LOL Will that is just too stiff, if you were down here you'd have kidney problems with our @$$ bad roads I thought my ride was hard with '85 4wd springs kyb gas dampers and a .75" spacer in the back struts (and yes those are struts in the back irregardless of what you have heard) to compensate for the weight of my tools and stereo... Will save you lots of time, trial and error, and general hardship. The Herb Adams book is a bit old, published in 94, but it covers the basics. Dennis ex24: I do not know who makes these springs. Since they are such high rates, i got a deal on them....$14.95 for the set of four. There deal was "Race Springs, $14.95 for a set, rates must be 1000#+, and 600#+ for coil over sizes." They do have hypercoil, AFcoil, and the other popular brands, thse look like they have been painted, but the rears are chrome plates....maybe those are hypers, I dont know. They were used springs.
