De-emissioned the Brat

Recommended Posts

Ok, well I let austin attack it, we removed all the emissions compononts, and he ignored the egr valve, cause he told me usallaly they're stuck closed. So we go to fire it up, and it won't idle, runs at 2,500rpms or higher just fine, but any lower and it died out. after swaping carbrators on it 3 times, we realised that the egr valve was actually stuck open, not closed, providing a major vacume leak! austin covered it and like magic the engine ran normally. So now it's de-emissioned, running smooth, and ready to be tested to see if it fails or passes:clap: I'm replacing the distrubuter with one that doesn't have massive shaft play, hoping that helps, and the only other thing it needs is a return spring for the carbrator. So I thought I'd share the news of today's adventures. It's amazing what obvious things pass the eye. it just needs some slight tuning wich will be done tomarrow, and I should be set. The passenger side cv outer joint however is making all sorts of noises on me when I turn, so it's time to replace that.

yeah, but it's still running to rich and failing, Austin has access to a sniffer at his work. We're gonna try diffrent carbrators today until we find one that works... Turnes out the other Night Ed that the egr valve, unlike what austin thought, was stuck open instead of closed, so theres this half inch vacume leak lol! We never noticed it until finally he thought of covering it just for the hell of it, and like magic, the car idled normally. So now to find a good carbrator out of the 20 in his shed lol, wish us luck today.
