Marck Posted March 25, 2004 Share Posted March 25, 2004 I have some rust that made its way under the left tailight lens. I am trying to remove the lens so I can work on removing the rust. I removed the 8mm nuts that hold the lens in, but it still won't come out. It seems that there is some kind of black sealing goop that is holding the lens to the body. I tried pushing and prying, but it doesn't seem to want to come out. I don't want to break it. Is there an easier way? Also where can I buy some of this stuff when I am ready to put the lens back on. jelly man Posted March 26, 2004 Share Posted March 26, 2004 I'm painting my 87 3door coupe. That black goop is all scraped and being replaced. The brand I'm using is 3m Strip-calk (part no. 051135 -08578). You can buy it at a auto body supply. It's a box of 60 one foot lengths of black sticky cord about 3/16" diameter. If you don't replace this stuff the water runs down around the liftgate, on top of the taillights and into the car and floods the under floor tool box compartment. rallyruss Posted March 26, 2004 Share Posted March 26, 2004 my Rx leaks a bit there too. I am waiting for warmer weather to fix it. should come of easyer if its hot. as for the sealant.
