I just did a timing belt, water pump, oil pump o-ring, front seal, etc on my 99 Outback DOHC. Problem going in was a very steady oil drip from the front. What was found was no problems with anything else other than the lip seal. The seal's lip was rock hard, would crack if you tried to bend it. One screw on the back of the oil pump was just a little loose, rest of the screws very tight, everything now fixed. The new seal from Subaru has a brown colored rubber lip insert, hope it's better than the OEM seal was.
