86subaru Posted April 9, 2004 Share Posted April 9, 2004 i found a fuel leak by the fuel pump ,it seems to be leaking around the regulator , it is a 88 spfi dual range manual wagon , does any one have one of these to sell ? the regulator looks real rusty and is leaking badly , or are they same as on top of the motor ? after the fuel filter , because i have several of these . thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
c150L Posted April 9, 2004 Share Posted April 9, 2004 That sounds like the same place my 88 wagon sprung a leak. I think what you are refering to as the regulator is some sort of surge/pulse absorber that's mounted to the top of the pump. (Could be wrong.) I drove it for a couple more weeks with a coat of JB Weld covering the top of it, but the rust was so bad, it delaminated and started leaking again. The car sat behind the shed for months. I was not going to spend a couple hundred for a new one from Sube dealer. I was also not going to spend a hundred bux for the used ones that I found on line. My boy went to a local yard, found a Sube and gave the guy 20 bux for one. Take along something to stick in the end of the hose that you disconnect from the tank to the pump. It may siphon the rest of the gas out of the tank when you remove the pump.. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
GeneralDisorder Posted April 9, 2004 Share Posted April 9, 2004 I seem to recall someone saying that the pressure regulator was 1:1, in other words, it really doesn't do anything..... archemitis Posted April 10, 2004 Share Posted April 10, 2004 ya, if its not the fpr under the hood, it must just be a pulse dampener. i dont have one on my efi converstion, and you can feel a very quick pulse, in the rubber lines, works without it though, most efi cars have it.
