omegax
Hi everyone, I have a 91 legacy FWD 5MT, i've been having stall problems for a few months now, I've done a tune up replaced plugs, fuel filter, pcv valve etc, I also had a few ECU codes which i took care of, Knock sensor, solenoid purge valve and MAF. After a cleaning and replacing the knock sensor the MAF code also disapeared. The stall problem remained. 90% of the time when the car stalls it is after highway driving. I.E comming off exit ramp at a stop light. As soon as i pull it out of gear instead of idling like it normally would the RPMs drop rapidly to a stall. I can pop it back in gear and prevent it from stalling, or give the accelerator a few pumps and it will most of the times prevent it from stalling out. Strangely the problem is not constant and i can't reproduce it on demand. When this forum was back on the ezboard i found a cache thread about some one cleaning out/replacing his fuel pressure regulator after having a similar problem, if that person is still on this board and still living in NY PM me the name was "Grounded1". I also spoke to someone at work which confirmed this might be the problem saying that if it is getting stuck open the engine is being flooded with fuel causing the stall. I am in the process of getting a used but working FPR . Strangely when my mom had the car before me it had this problem though i am not sure if it happen at the same time and supposedly she went to a mechanic that found a frayed wire which was fixed, but in the attempt to find this i could not find anything taped up in the way she described. if anyone has any other suggestions help me out. Legacy777
If your fpr theory doesn't solve the problem, it may be the MAF sensor. I had an intermittant stalling problem, which was finally linked to the MAF sensor.
omegax
I actually had the MAF come up but it no longer does. I didnt tihnk that to be an intermitten problem, i figured it would be bad all the time. I had baught one previously but they gave me one for an Automatic tranny and insisted it would work on mine... goes to show what they know.. and ofcourse no return on electronics so i got screwed. Legacy777
If you have a new AT MAF.....you should try and sell it.....you should be able to recoup some of the money you lost.
