00 lego dash clock runs fast.

i don't really expect a solution, but you never know.

 

the digital clock in my 00 lego wagon, w/ ej25 and 85k miles, runs fast. it gains a minute or more each weak.

 

is this common?

 

any fix other than a replacement?

 

any chance it is a voltage thing?

Had this problem on my 00 Legacy and the unit was simply replaced under warranty.

Even the EA82 clocks used a crystal for timing, so I would expect the later ones to also use this method.  I would expect that the probable cause is a crystal that was out-of-spec at time of manufacture.

 

Options seem to be to replace the clock, or locate a replacement crystal and R&R the one on your clock...

 

(The second option was mentioned for the masochists amongst us.)

i just priced a replacement tach , $22.00.

sounds cheap, i better double check the part number.

 

i guess that's what i'll do, eventually.

i was assuming that the clock was a part of the tach assembly, like the odo was a part of the speedo.

 

but i must admitt i have not looked at my car today so maybe i'm wrong.

The tach has nothing to do with the clock reference frequency that it uses to operate. The clock is a stand alone device, just add power.

This sounds like a 10 dollar trip to the junkyard. Many of the subes I saw today had somewhat torn-out dashes, easy access.

Mine does the same thing.  It's pretty far down the fixit list.
