used car Posted April 19, 2013 Share Posted April 19, 2013 I have 1987 subaru gl 1.8 liter sedan.Choke no longer works on cold mornings.I have to use accelerator to rev it up until engine warms up.Whats wrong and how to fix it? TomRhere Posted August 4, 2013 Share Posted August 4, 2013 Chances are the end has broke off of the bi-metallic spring. That is the most likely cause of choke not setting. You have to drill the rivets out that hold the cover on to replace the spring. Use self-tapping #8-32 screws to put the cover back on. mikaleda Posted August 6, 2013 Share Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) Or covert to Manuel choke, simpler and way less hassle afterwards. Also to adjust, loosen the three retaing screws and turn until you see the choke plate close almost all the way.
