Tell me a bit about exhaust manifolds please!

Recommended Posts

I'm curious about exhaust systems (as I'm building up a fairly custom project)

I'm wondering about interchangeability/ franken-setups e.t.c.

I've been on car-part.com trying to find exhaust manifolds/ assemblies for the 3.0r engine. but it only gives me options for the 2.5 engine of the corresponding year...were they the same??? The engine I have that I'm building the system for is a 2007 3.0r. Is there interchangeability here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm kind of stuck here.

EZ30DR has a unique exhaust header.

I know the EG33 has the same flange on the engine, but I don't know if SVX exhaust would work.

Are you saying that the first gen 3.0 has the same exhaust manifold as the second generation? D:R

The flanges are the bits that actually fit up to the engine itself right?

If that's the case, then I would need the opposite of what you're suggesting, wouldn't I? Because I would need the actual flanges themselves to be fitted properly to the ez30r? Not to a EJ25XXX?

What? No, not at all. EZ30D has single exhaust ports.

EZ30DR has a unique manifold. Unique, as in not the same as anything else.

The flange is the same as the EG33. So SVX stuff will physically bolt to the engine, but I don't know about how it would fit in comparison to the rest of the car (EZ series is much smaller, so the flanges might be further back in relation to the crossmember, transmission, etc.)

After looking more closely, the option given will not work for you. The header portion is much larger and a flange change alone will not mate the two pieces.

This would work for the D but not the R version.

Headers are available, but expensive. http://www.raptorsc.com.au/kits.php?id=70

Ahhh gotcha. I've only ever seen them referred to as D for the first gen, and then R for the second gen. I've never seen the second gen written as DR before, so I assumed you meant that they both had a unique manifold compared to the previous 6s. My bad :P

EZ30R is not a real engine code. The model is called a 3.0R, but the engine code is EZ30DR.

I don't think so, the SVX flange is a lot different and bigger.

SVX manifolds on the outside, 3.0r manifolds on the inside.

Here's some headers I found in a quick google search: http://www.raptorsc.com.au/kits.php?id=70
