Godsmulligan Posted May 19, 2013 Share Posted May 19, 2013 This is kind of a weird topic and I wasn't quite sure where to place it. So, here goes... I've been doing some searching of the threads and there is not a lot on carpet replacement. There are a few ideas being thrown around but nothing to really go on. What I've gained so far is that you can get fitted carpet for a Brat on JC Whitney, but just the front part. I searched out some other Subaru models of the same year and couldn't come up with anything. My thinking was that a hatchback should have the same carpet, possibly even a wagon, not sure about an XT. If I could get the front and back for one of these models I could cut the back to fit the brat.This is the reason I posted this in retrofitting. Yet, there are other options when it comes to carpert that I would like addresed for the good of the Subaru Nation. 1. using carpet rolls. I'm scared it's goint to look like crap because I've never done it. Has anyone else done this? Pics? Tips? 2. Bed linner coating. I'm not sure if this look is right for my car since it's more for the occasional camping trip or driving across the pass in winter. Those of you that have done it, how do you like it? Pics? 3. Rubber matting. It's kind of a cross between carpet and bedliner but I'm not sure how it would look or fit right. I guess I could use a heat gun to mold it, I just don't want to spend the cash and then screw it up. Has anyone else done this, and once again pics? 4. What other crazy things have you done to replace your carpet? 5. let's not forget about what carpet will fit in what car. Let's make this the end all of carpet threads. I foolishly thought that molded in rubber thingy would work for a floor mat. Now i have holes that go to the metal. I know I could just slap a new floor mat over it, but has anyone cut out a section of carpet and replace it? It looks like there is an underpad beneath the carpeting. I have bed liner in my Dodge RAM and don't regret it for a second. This coating helps keep out rust too. Here's what I came up with. Home Depot does not carry suitable automotive carpet. If you don't care if it doesn't look like car carpet you can replace your carpet for $12. It will cost you $30-$40 to replace your carpet using roll carpet if you doing a brat, more for a hatch or wagon. there is a carpet kit for a brat, but only the front section $100 and you will still need a roll for the back section $15 Paint on bed liner $80 gallon kit, Herculiner. $150 gallon kit Monstaliner. *I was thinking about going with roll carpet, but if I go with the bed liner I can use the remainder on the brats bed subsidising the cost. Mr Loyale, I would just throw a floor mat over the hole. It will only bug you until you forget about it. Gloyale Posted June 20, 2013 Share Posted June 20, 2013 I used a legacy sedan carpet in my 84 GL sedan. Not really a perfect fit but was at better than what was in it. Hmmm....... Godsmulligan Posted August 1, 2013 Author Share Posted August 1, 2013 Ordered some carpet off amazon, $30. It's crap, no backing at all. I will have to use a spray adhesive to get it to stay in one place. Looks more like thick felt than it does auto carpet. At least it will form to the body easy. Godsmulligan Posted August 12, 2013 Author Share Posted August 12, 2013 (edited) The carpet surprised me. It went in so easy and with the spray adhesive, formed to the floor perfectly. On top of that it looks great, and I think it's going to hold up a lot better than I originally thought. In the pictures you can see every wire hiding under the carpet. It's not like that in real life. I did glue the stuff down crazy good. I've had to pull it up in a few sections to and that wasn't an issue.
