iluvdrt Posted April 20, 2004 Share Posted April 20, 2004 i was just wondering if there are any hoses inside the gas tank on a gl wagon. the reason i ask is because my fuel line was acting clogged, and after some troubleshooting i discovered the fuel was no longer coming out of the tank. i took some compressed air and blew it into the tank via the carb line coming off the tank. it made a pop noise and the the fuel started coming out. the problem is, is that any time i am on a big incline the car stops running(not that it ran that great anyway) and i am wondering if i blew off some kind of internal rubber line going somewhere in the tank so that when i am on incline the fuel line is no longer reaching the fuel in the back of the tank. also, what does the fuel separator do? does it just separate vapors from the tank? thanks. Turbone Posted April 20, 2004 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Theres a screen on th end of a tube or hose. The manual doesnt specify or show it. You might have blown the screen off, or whatever was blocking the end. Is it still clogged after blowing air in it? The fuel seperator does just that. iluvdrt Posted April 20, 2004 Author Share Posted April 20, 2004 no, it is no longer clogged. the car has been sitting for about 8-9 years, and i just figured the gas had gelled inside the tube or something. what ever was clogging it took 145 psi to blow it out. i think my carb is just shot, and it may not have very much gas(or should i say varnish) left in it. just wanted to make shure before i start hitting the inclines and really getting on her. mickytrus Posted April 21, 2004 Share Posted April 21, 2004 yeah, that is a long time for a vehicle to sit....... I have a car that I let sit for about 20 years.......... (inside of course) but I made my mistakes with letting it sit... she is still a cream puff but, would be better if I new the affects.... letting something sit even a year can be costly........... GOt one sitting right now for about four years...... It is on the restoration que......(hopefully it will get the but the Subie I just bought cut the line)........ I would say replace/repair every componant in the fuel system... that shillac gell shizzz will just haunt you... it will contaminate any good gas it touches.............. Also check the brake system throughly.... A cars worst enemy is road salt and salt of that nature but, when a car sits........ it is as bad...
