slammed brat project

Recommended Posts

For the last few years i have dreaming up a slammed Brat that has some nice wheels and has a rat rod look to it and I finally found one to start on. I picked this one up in Salt Lake UT so it has some rust but over all its in pretty good shape. The motor was half way taken apart because the guy I got if from said that coolant started to come out of the valve cover breather one morning and he thought it was a head gasket leak but he gave up before he found the problem. It turned out to just be a freeze plug in the head popped out. So I just went ahead and just rebuilt the top end of the motor and it runs great. Im going to do a build blog as I go so any advice and comments would be great Here are a few pics of what she looks like.

I put my WRX wheels up to her to see what they would look like. I think 18s are a little to big haha.

how many splines did you turn your torsion bars? I have one side on mine 3 and it is going to be supper low. The other side im still working on due to the rust its pretty stuck. I think for the front im going to make a set of coilovers. how does yours ride with the cut springs an all? an how many coils did you need to cut to get that low? By the way nice looking Brat.

I went about 3 maybe 4 splines I forget off the top of my head.. we ripped the bump stops off and I have about an inch of clearance. I used Checy LUV rear shocks to replace the stock ones. they are about 3 1/2 inches shorter with 5 about 5 inches of travel. We just had to remove the bushing and put the OEM bushings in those shocks which was a pain in the rump roast but worth it. The front isn't horrible with the 2wd front struts and I cut about 2 coils off. It's not the most comfortable ride but sacrifeces in comfort must be made for the low ha  http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/135143-my-79-brat-build/ here is the link to my build thread.

I have a factory brushguard for a gen1 Brat for sale if anyone here is interested. Its located in West Palm Beach, FL so you will have to come get it or arrange pickup for shipping. There might be a company out there that would pick it up to ship to you. Its to heavy for me to do so by myself. I dont wnat to even deal with shipping it. I rather just keep it. sSOO if interested please email me at tbag1331@yahoo.com for more details.

So today I got my 4x100 conversion done an got the brakes all done. in this pic I just have the stock strut with no spring installed and its sitting on the bump stop just to see how low the strut can go. I have some 86 MR2 strut insert on the way to install because there about 3 inches shorter that way I can lower it this low an not hit the bump stop.http--,,--//IMG_20131102_155839_zps5a479c4b.jpg

Today I built the front struts for my brat by pulling the guts out of the stock struts and putting 1 gen MR2 rear strut inserts in the stock strut tubes. I was able to cut 2 1/4 inches out so I could drop it that much lower and still have shock travel left after cutting the springs here are a few pics of the project.
