Guest Russ Hill
I'm finally getting my '86 wagon together. But, I see that the Y-Pipe has rust holes in the outside of the Cat. I bought this car nonrunning so I don't know if it had a massive leak or not. My question is, do you think the cat is rusted out or is it just the outer cover? Guest jon61484
You'll need to take the front 1/3rd of the exhuast out. Unbolt each side of the exhaust from the manifold *USE RUST PENATRANT on exhaust bolts, ect.* and unbolt the pipe after the cat from the next section, and unbolt it from under the car. Your cat should have heat shields, so it might be just the heat shield. ~jon
Guest subyaddict
You should be able to take off the cover with some knocker loose, and check sor cracks. Also just tapping on with a hammer sould give a fairly solid tone. If it rattles, it's probably bad inside too. Good luck Nathan 1983 gl wagon 4wd 5sp d/r,R-LSD,R-discs,
