Gen 1 brat fuse layout

Recommended Posts

For my gen 1 project I will be swapping the dash and modernizing the wiring by converting to plastic fuses and adding relays in a few key parts that the factory left out. While I am at it it would be great to add in fuses for the EJ22,fuel pump, and cooling fans. The first step of that is finding out what fuse does what.My brat doesn't have cover or label explaining what each fuse is so I was hoping someone could chip in and explain what each fuse is in a top-bottom fashion IE

headlights

taillights

heater fan

etc

Also what circuits are tied to the same fuse?IE is there a high and low beam fuse or just a bigger fuse that covers both of them?

Thanks in advance.

I can tell you what the cover says:

Head (Upper) 15A

Head (lower) 15A

Tail License Park 15A

Turn Back Rear Def 15A

IG ST Fuel 15A

Clock hazard stop horn wiper 15A

Heater fan radio cigar 25A

Light SW 25A

At least I think that's what it says. It's black and black and dirty plus my eyes aren't that great! I'm still trying to figure out the problem with my low beams (don't work) while the high beams do. If you figure out why, lemme know.

Phsychotic Subathusiast says it might be your fuse. Pull it and make sure end caps are not shot.

I have not had any free time for weeks, maybe months, one thing I have noticed is only two cars out of hundreds maybe thousands have brighted me back. These Brats do not seem to be the brightest ones in the bunch.hehehe

ah!!! i need one of those! lol

My BRAT is restored and I get asked all the time if I want to change the dash. While probably not the worst I've seen, I think the cracked up dash is her crowning glory and I'd never change it. It's my homage to days gone by, kinda like wrinkles on an older person's face.  :D

while I am at it,Does anyone know if in factory form all four headlights burn on high beams, or if the low beams turn off?Judging by the headlight upper and lower amp ratings I would say that just the two high beams are on in high beams.

The modernization of the wiring would include such nice things as starter relay, low beam relay, high beam relay, relay to run both sets of lights in high beams, fuel pump relay, ignition relay, coolant fan relay, not to mention high capacity alternator/wiring, and LED lights for all exterior lighting other than headlights…

while I am at it I will wire in a relay to run some offroad lights as well.Good thing I will be running a much more powerful EJ alternator, the stock EA71 one and wiring might just catch fire pulling that kinda load…
