Nick's 94 Loyale build

Today we did some work. And by we I mean Marcus. I drove out to his work in Auburn and we parked the Sub in the hangar to begin the 6 lug re-drill. The day before we found an 85' GL in the junkyard which we got some studs and lug nuts off of.

Here is the hub, with 2 studs knocked out. Testing the fit on the wheels. The hub didn't want to sit flush inside the lip of the wheel, but we sanded it down to fit in there nicely.

Here is the hub getting the pilot holes drilled in.

We used a 35/64 bit that we got from Tacoma Screw. Ran Marcus about $50 but he said it was well worth it. The bit held up well.

Here is the 6 lug hub mounted on the car. Looks ready to rock and roll!

had to modify the stud tops a little bit to make them fit.

:headbang:  This is no lift with 14's and 27 tires. We had to do a bit of shaping of the fenders. It rubs a little here and there. still getting used to that. Marcus is on a 2" lift, 205x75x14 tires, and 14" pugs. We measured the width between the ground and the fender on both our cars. Marcus has me in height by about an inch.

lookin pretty sweet! although i must say i dont care for whatever is going on with your headlights...

I get lots of questions about that. Personally, I like it. I think it makes it look angry. Some don't, some do. Haven't seen it done before, I like being different. Thanks though!

So I'm trying to put on different fenders tonight, didn't finish. The bumper is a real pain to get to!

here she is with headlights out, runners out, plastic from wheel well out, wheel off, and all but 2 nuts off. I guess I need to remove the bumper to get the the last 2 nuts.

here's what I think is the bumper bolts. I've been going at them for about 20 minutes and they won't budge! even tried a torque wrench although i don't want to struggle with it too much because it's just on a jack stand. They're in kinda a tough spot to get to. Any other way to get this fender off?

Soak with PB Blaster on both sides and let sit. Steady pressure on a breaker bar if needed.

 

If they are that stuck then I would use a tap to clean them out and get new bolts when you reinstall

I'll soak them while I go to school today. I'm sure I'll get it soon.

Cn you get to the bolt side? Usually the nut is welded to the bracket and the bolt comes out...

If I'm not mistaken the bolt side is behind a few pieces of metal. I'll check for that but I'm pretty sure I can't get to it without getting in too big of a mess.

Nuts are welded, get at the bolts from in the engine bay. Down near the timing covers, below the air box and battery areas.

yes the bolts for the bumper are inside the engine bay they are  pain to get to . i dont see why you need to rmove the bumper though . i have never had to remove it to change fenders

the last 2 nuts that secure the fender in are under the bumper cover.

So i got the bumper off! i didnt end up having to remove those nuts/bolts. It was just the line of screws from headlight to headlight. Here's a pic test fitting the blue, cut fenders that Marcus let me borrow till i get my lift. I was rubbing really bad on every turn. Now i only rub a little when i hit a bump in the back.

Here's a picture of the car with both fenders on. I left the grill out. As you can see, the light shines through the plasti-dip at night. I just like it during the day.

Went to junkyard today and picked up some springs from the front of a 86 accord. According to Jes these will work. Can't get them out of compression tonight because I lack the required tool to decompress springs, and don't want to risk anything happening. I think I'm going to try to have these on tomorrow. The honda ones are the ones with orange marking on them, being compared to my stock ones with all the dirt on them  :popcorn: stay tuned.

Sorry, posting from my phone. Here's a link to the Honda spring on the Subaru tower. Not secured in yet.I still have some work to do. They appear to be the same size when compared side by side with Subaru spring+tower but I think the 2" lift comes from the compression. The Honda springs have more coils so they will compress less than the Subaru springs. the second link is a picture of the stock Subaru spring plus tower. Also you can see the spring that came off one. Not much time to work on Christmas Eve. Also shown are the spring compressors borrowed from a friend.

If I remember right yur origianal height was 28 and a quarter... after we did the 6 lug anyways. Looks good... does it still rub? And see what kind of weight you can put in it... I'm curious.

This measurement might be a little off. But I'm somewhere close to 29.5-30 at the top of the rear. If my original was 28.25 these springs rock! I've noticed a significant change in the way my car handles and rides. I'll try to describe it. You know when you hit a bump in the road or pothole? how your car bounces up, then comes down pretty hard, then bounces a little more? These springs help minimize that. I noticed when I hit a bump the extra coils and more tightly wrapped spring help to smooth out the transition from hitting the bump. The car doesn't come down as hard as it used to and cornering is a bit more "sporty". Overall sweet little mod you can do in not too much time. Thanks to Jes for the info and Marcus for the idea!

Could I Ask, How tall are your Subie's Tires?

 

My Subaru "BumbleBeast" has 25" tires, And measures 28" tallness,

 

to the Wheel well's top from the Floor, carrying some Load.

 

(Such as a Full sized spare tire, three tool boxes, a medium sized fire extinguisher, an amplified SubWoofer, etc...)
