Have fitted new cv to front left of brumby . TIGHTENED wheel bearings locking nut with split pin no movement in bearing . 20ks later bearings loose , retightened new split pin approx 50 later bearing loose again . No grinding or noise . Shall change bearings but wondering is a common complaint with these vehicles , never came across it before . Or am I missing something  ?

To me it sounds like your cone washer is likely grooved or damaged in one way or another causing a loose fit against the hub allowing the axle nut to work loose.

The cone washer is a type of lock washer that needs good clean surfaces to lock correctly. Similar to the bevel on a lug nut.

You should also make sure the "Spring" washer has the convex side facing out. This could also cause the nut to work loose.

Please view the attached info below.

Good luck!

could be the cone washer or that you didn't do up the nut tight enough. Or both.

I use a 3/4 inch truck breaker bar with a 36mm socket on it. the breaker bar has a 4 foot long inch square steel pipe that slides over it.

I tighten the nut up as much as possible using the 4 foot bar, then stand on the breaker bar and tighten it about another quarter of a turn.
