Recommended Posts

trying to decide what size tires to put on my 86... I sort of like the looks of this size.... I can go bigger, but not sure I want to.....

and the answer is.....

before

after

after lightening up the image to see the tires better

I ended up going with 205/70r14 Dayton Quadra SE's for the tread pattern.....

Mick, I think it looks nice as it is. I wouldn't go much bigger than that if you are gonna do it at all. With that type of rim It wouldn't look right with big knarly tires. It has that look that let's everyone know it is 4wd but with some class. Nice lookin BRAT. BTW, Where'd this one come from. I don't recall you having this one unless it's the turbo BRAT and you took the stickers off and waxed it up/painted it real nice. Boz

Boz, that's my 86 (86k miles too :) ) I've had it since '99 :)

the wheels on it (14s) are not the ones that it will have. I have a set of Subaru Chrome 14" alloys that will go on it.

This is my 'baby' that stays in a storage garage over the winter to keep rust away. it only gets driven about 2-3k miles a year (11k since I bought it in Oct. '99).

I have my 82 for off-roading, so not interested in going real big. I had 205/65R15's on it previously (now with Archemitis).

theones in the pic ar 195/70R14s....

so what does european styleing on the tires mean? one of the sets I'm looking at list that as a bullet point......

That they can charge $19.99 a tire more for a trumped up idea. Seriously, I don't know, but it just sounds like another advertising ploy. I put 205/75/14's on mine - made by Dayton Rubber Co. (an off brand), but they were $150 mounted and balanced. I thought I'd run these to get any bugs in alignment and rub on wheel wells figured out before I put on some serious meats.

The rims are sweet! Honestly it looks a little funny sitting that high with such small tires. I would consider either lowering it a bit or going with taller tires. Since it's just for scooting around the street and sitting in a garage I see why you dont want big tires. Is the suspension cranked up? Maybe you could drop it a bit there.

Just my humble opinion :)

Daytons were what was on it before. it's either gonna be another set of those or some Cheap Kelly Metrics.

I sold those Kelly Metrics when I worked @ a tire shop, they actuly are not bad tires. Just keep them inflated right (22PSI or better) and they will hold up well.
