This should really be posted in another sub-forum here , and or search more on the subject outside of here. Not GENUINELY off-road related. No matter what you think. LOL

I would bet that the newer gen forums have your questions answered.

cheers

You're unlikely to find a JDM EJ22, since the taxes in Japan put engines over 2000cc (2.0L) in a higher registration tax bracket. It doesn't make much sense for them to produce a domestic engine with a few more horse power, but goes from being classified as a small car, to a anything-bigger vehicle. This would put anything with a 2.2L in the same class as a big, fuel-chuggin' V8 monster. If you're looking for JDM, you will probably want to look for an EJ20.

Ahh I forgot about that, explains why EJ20s are all over the place but not EJ22. Thanks!

Another thing to ponder, is what was the maintenance like on those low mile engines,or even how was it driven?Taxes in japan make it very expensive to own a car after 4 years. After the first 3 years of owning a car it has to go through inspections every 2 years, moving up to once a year after it gets old enough. The problem is those inspections are like $1000.So most cars arn't kept for very long.If you knew that you were only keeping a car for 4 years would you be inclined to do all the regular maintenance on it?Also most of japan is more or less city/urban driving. So that 30K miles is 99% stop and go traffic.I would rather have a car with 120K of highway driving, then have one with 20K of stop and go driving.

i too don't see tremendous value in the JDM market, not for a motor like this.  it's silly to pay premium prices on a motor that's one of the most robust and reliable Subaru has ever built, is cheap and easy to get in the united states.  they're easily had for $100 - $400, a bit higher in Colorado or PNW.

craigslist

USMB classified forum (i'd almost sell you an entire running car for EJ JDM prices)
