mattocs Posted May 10, 2004 Share Posted May 10, 2004 When I got my OBW I was getting 24 MPG. I put on a cone shaped air filter and was getting about 17 MPG. I used ABS glue to put the original back on and now I get about 20 - 22 MPG. Since gas is about $2 a gallon...i'd like to improve my mileage. I used some fuel injector cleaner and etc. Shoud I check out some junkyards for a new MAF sensor thing? There are no gaps with the glue...so I don't know why my mileage has gone down. Would the sensor and pipe part off a 2.5 and 1.8l Impreza and Legacy engine work on the 2.2l? Anyone else have any ideas? Gas in Denmark is about $1.30 per gallon. Gas everywhere is about $1.30 per gallon. What you pay at the pump includes all the taxes levied to build roads, pay for social causes, and the like. Prices will continue to rise as China improves it's standard of living and the Middle East puts the squeeze on the world economy. Sadly, these will be remembered as the good old days. If I can't figure out why it went down from the 24MPG that it got when I got it...I dunno what i'm gonna do. Maybe buy a Geo Metro until prices go down. SevenSisters points out the critical component: CHINA. Unless they somehow fall off the planet (hmmm?) worlwide demand for oil is only going to skyrocket. Bummer for us...just hope we don't go crazy socialist like Europe and start paying 5$ a gallon in taxes. BTW 22 isn't so bad just look around at all the poor saps in Expeditions and the like. They may not ever go back to 80 cents a gallon, but I do not see them staying at the friggin $2.29 it is here for Regular at Chevron, just like it didn't stay at $2.09 last year, it went back down to $1.69 or so. With a 2.5 and an automatic we got 27.7 MPG consistently with the A/C on and the car fully loaded on the highway. I have seen close to 30 MPG at times lately. I am extremely critical of most if not all aftermarket air intake systems. It isn't worth the reduced mileage, potential for increased engine wear, and potential for MAF damage IMHO. I would put the stock airbox back on it and start looking at things like plugs, wires, and O2 sensor to get that mileage where it should be. My averages for each gas up are as follows: 30.26 30.17 28.65 29.19 31.2 35.15 26.35 28.2 Overall average if I throw out the hi and low comes to 29.61. This is mostly interstate driving at speeds ranging from 75-85. I'm quite happy since I expected 25-26 mpg at those high speeds. I just wonder where the 35.15 came from.
