My 1998 legacy just had its left front coil spring break off and it still runs fine but is a safety issue. I had the spring coil safety guard
put in under a recall notice 10 years ago and the recall does state if any coil springs breaks afterwards(corrosion) a new spring will be installed no charge. So I am calling local Subaru dealer tomorrow as I got proof of the recall notice, Vin # and past records. I am assuming Subaru will repair the one spring free. My concern is if other damage was done by a faulty spring like needing a new cv boot as an example. Does Subaru cover only the spring even if a broken coil caused other damage? What if other spring coil on left side is weak? Seems like common sense to do both. I was unclear about that reading the recall. Any experience with them appreciated. I expect I may get some resistance given the car is 16 years old, but they last long.
