LetteLizard Posted August 8, 2014 Share Posted August 8, 2014 So, I was having an issue with it sputtering really bad, and I took it to a mechanic. He said his computer was showing a Map sensor, he replaced MAP and an o2 sensor. Computer was still reading sensors, so he replaced the corroded wires, computer isnt reading any codes now. Running fine, did a little sputter on me the other day, not near as bad! When I let my foot off the gas I hear this horrible metal rattle, its comeing from under the hood somewhere, is this normal in Subarus? I know there are some normal rattles. When I fill up the gas tank it leaks, the filler hose/pipe is rusted.. is there anywhere I can buy one? Thanks for taking the time to read!! That could be the heat shields around the exhaust pipe rattling. Since there is a y pipe with exhaust pipes come down from each side of the engine, there is double the opportunity for rattling. When the car is cool, crawl under from the front and see if you can move those around. (I don't know a wagon this vintage that can't!) The easy fix is taking some large hose clamps and applying a few and cranking them down. If you can find a pick and pull yard near you, you should be able to find a replacement filler neck for your car. You access by removing the plastic wheel cover in the wheel well on that side. Take a look at the configuration of yours with regards to the small hoses and tubes as there are close variations between different models around this time. You can also buy a replacement either online or through a parts store (e.g. Autozone, etc.). which can be good if you use a coupon. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

johnceggleston Posted August 9, 2014 Share Posted August 9, 2014 buy very high QUALITY wires, these engines are picky. or order them from an online subaru dealer. and NGK plugs. don't go over board on the plugs. just get the ones spec-ed in the owners manual. The only difference I found is on the end that connects to the ignition coil one set is straight and the other bends. Does it really matter? Figured I would take car with me to parts store today. Yes, she lives in Virginia!!!! My opinion, I am currently using Bosch wires and plugs with no problems. I use the Platinum plugs, the base model with only one electrode, not the ones with two or four hooks.. Don't recommend Duralast wires. NGK wires or subaru wires from an online dealer, about $40. ngk plugs, i forget the cost but they are not overly expensive, more than $2 but less than $10. $6 - $7 i think. what is your time worth, you could spend countless hours trying to diagnose your problems all because you bout lessor wires. if you shop online at advance auto parts, you can get substantial discounts, up to 30% sometimes. order on line and pick up in the store 30 min. later, if it is in stock. anyway, you could be shooting yourself in the foot by buying cheap. but suabru or ngk wires and ngk plugs. benefit from the failures of others. Well, I went to Autozone and I asked for Bosch plugs and wires, man told me they didnt have wires had to order from manufacturer... I found NGK wires on ebay new cost less than the Bosch ones did.. I did buy some Bosch plugs. Wondering if I should return them because Advanced Auto Parts website says I can get Bosch Platinum+4 for the same price I paid for just Bosch platinum. The man did act like I was dumb because I am a female, he even commented on being impressed that I knew what I was talking about even though I am a girl. All people have to do is research before they invest in things. But he tried to sell me the cheapest he had and that's def one thing I have learned about vehicles, you DO NOT buy the cheapest.
