Tightening Torques and Sequences For EJ2.5 SOHC Camboxes

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Brenton and I have just joined this site.

I want to find out the tightening torques and sequence for the SOHC camboxes on an EJ 2.5 motor.

I am also after suggestions about the best way to tighten the camshaft pulley on the right side of the motor as it is a blank pulley and the only way I can figure to do it is by installing the cambelt putting the car in gear and the hand brake on.

The problem with this is that the pulley tends to jump a couple of teeth on the belt which I don't expect is a good thing for the belt and then the belt has to be removed, realigned and tensioned again.

Also I wanted to find out the sequence for resetting the valve clearances once I reinstall the rocker shafts and the timing belt? I had removed the rocker shafts to enable me to replace the valve stem seals without removing the heads.

Can someone help me with these topics please?

I don't have the torque specs for the cam keepers, but the cam bolt tightening I can help with.

There is a hex shaped portion on the camshaft right behind the rear cover plate.

I don't recall off the top of my head what size it is, but I believe its larger than 1".

You can get a good grip on that to tighten the cam bolt back into place.

If you use old impact methods (breaker bar and a hammer) you can it back to proper torque by hand.
