Subaru Brat?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

As I understood (and I might have NOT  ) - the Brat was made till 1987.

Now, Here in Israel we have Subaru pickups till 1994 models, which

looks the same as the brat. Is it indeed a brat? does the newer

models have a different name?

Many thanks in advance

Rinat

I think he's wanting to know how badly they rust over there, and just how easy it would be to get used body panels from junk yards, etc.... Also - what is the availibility of replacement parts from the dealerships there? Subaru of America can no longer get some of the Brat parts because Subaru of Japan refuses to ship them over due to little demand, and high costs of shipping. From what I understand talking to my local dealership, the parts almost certainly exist somewhere since the Brat was produced for other countries till at least 94, but getting them to the states is basically impossible if you go through Subaru. If you could find a source of parts in isreal for us, I'm sure that some of us would gladly pay to have you ship them to us. Things like rear bumpers, and the rubber ends for them, rear mud flaps, and some other Brat specific bits that we are in need of here.....

about the brat specific thing, I got screwed on a gas tank pipe because they said it was one of only nine left in the country!

almost a hundred dollars!! (and I think they gave me a break on the price)

Also, does his look like a long bed? look at the side view, but I'm not really sure though.

(EDIT): I looked a little harder, I don't think so.

rust... well as u all know (or not) Israel has an extremly hot weather 80% of the year...There are planty of parts here, but these are mostly used parts. The brat was very very common here in the past 15 years or so, mostly used for work (loading stuff in the back or so). This is why most of them had a closed box. Lately, in the past 4 years or so, it became a car for younger ppl, which could not afford themselves the big expensive pickups (just to make u understand smtg, here in Israel, a brand new GMC Sonoma - basic 4X4 is around 60,000$!)

And, like myself, the youngers buy it to carry there motocross bikes etc.

I can try and find out about new parts here, although I never really needed any, in the past two years I had mine. But the Brat is very common in junk yards - so it should not be difficult.

Regarding a brand "new" 1994? I guess it is possible - but I am not sure about the price.

PS.

This is so funny. Most of the ppl here just HATE this car. I never thought there are ppl who ectually LOVE it (well, I do. but not as much as u guys). Never thought about getting TURBO in this car :))

WOW dude, some amazing brat u got there!!!

regarding the t-tops, becasue my country is so "progressive" in almost any aspect, if I cut off my original roof and put one with the t-tops, I can say bye bye to the license. I wont be able to get it on road legaly.

and if this sounds weird, did u know I cannot even change the tires? only the original 155 - or spend half a day in some office to make it wear 175.

Crappy country. :banghead:

Stock tires here for a Brat is 185/70r13

Only DL 4WD's and 2WD's got the 175's

Could you take a picture of the rear end of your Brat? I know in Austrailia they don't really have rear bumpers, but instead have two "bumperlets" on each end. It's kinda interesting.

How are prices in the Junk Yards over there? Especially if no one wants them, and you have lots of parts :brow:

If you had the body work done professionally, I don't see how they would know that it didn't come with the halo-twin roof...

Mine is 1.6. There are some 1.8, mostly the automatic gear ones, but also many ppl here using the Leone engine (as well as the steering wheel).

I will get some more picture tomorrow, it is getting dark here.

another thing I forgot mentioning is that since lately young ppl drive this car, they remove the ugly box behind, and every one is looking for the original door - it can reach 200$ here for a used one, this is how rare is the rear door :))
